We are a well-established, privately owned water well drilling and injection well services company with multiple active field crews. We serve commercial, agricultural, municipal and residential clients and have built our reputation on quality, reliability, and long-term customer relationships.
We are seeking a senior operations leader to work directly with ownership and grow into a long-term leadership and succession role.
Position Summary
The General Manager / Director of Operations will oversee all daily field and office operations while working closely with ownership on long-term planning, growth, and transition. This role is intended for a proven industry professional who can eventually lead the company.
This is a hands-on leadership position combining estimating, scheduling, crew management, customer coordination, and field coordination and business administration.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Field Management
Oversee daily drilling, installation, and service operations
Manage multiple field crews and supervisors
Ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
Coordinate equipment, materials, fleet, and maintenance
Estimating, Scheduling & Project Controls
Prepare and review bids, proposals, and pricing
Develop and manage schedules using MS Project
Monitor manpower, equipment, and timelines
Track backlog and project performance
Financial & Administrative Oversight
Work with ownership and accounting on budgeting and cash flow
Job costing, forecasting, reporting, and analysis
Oversee operational use of QuickBooks for invoicing, job costing, and financial tracking
Monitor margins, expenses, and KPIs
Leadership & Staff Development
Recruit, train, and mentor field and office staff
Develop supervisors and lead personnel
Improve accountability and performance standards
Foster a professional, results-driven culture
Customer & Business Management
Serve as primary point of contact for key clients
Resolve escalated issues and disputes
Support repeat business and business development
Represent the company in industry and regulatory settings
Succession & Strategic Planning
Work directly with ownership on long-term transition
Develop scalable systems and procedures
Participate in strategic growth initiatives
Qualifications
Required
8+ years in water well drilling, drilling services, utility drilling, geotechnical drilling, or related field
3+ years in senior supervisory, operations, or management role
Proven experience managing multiple crews and projects
Strong background in estimating and job costing
Proficient in MS Project for scheduling and planning
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Experience using QuickBooks for job costing and financial tracking
Working knowledge of permitting and regulatory requirements
Ability to lead in both office and field environments
Willingness to relocate if outside the region
Preferred
Experience managing $5M+ operations
P&L responsibility
Prior succession or partnership experience
Business development background
