1BPOSITION SUMMARY
CSG South seeks a detail-oriented and results-driven Director of Operations and Events to lead the execution of our organization's operational infrastructure and major convenings, including the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC). This role oversees internal processes, staff support systems, event logistics, and technology platforms that keep our work running smoothly and at the highest level of excellence. The Director of Operations and Events ensures projects are delivered on time and on budget, establishes performance metrics, and strengthens systems that improve efficiency across departments. This leader directly supervises the Operations and Events team and collaborates with colleagues across CSG South to ensure operations and convenings reflect our standard of excellence and commitment to public service.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, implement, and continuously improve standard operating systems (SOPs), policies, and procedures that increase departmental and organizational efficiency and accountability.
Translates strategic goals into operational plans and systems that ensure execution, accountability, and measurable impact.
Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track organizational performance and operational outcomes.
Lead cross-departmental process improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with nonprofit and nonpartisan best practices.
Manage internal project management tools, technology platforms, and reporting systems that support staff productivity.
Oversee the office facilities and systems, including IT, fire alarm, and elevator, ensuring the organizational assets are adequately maintained and secure.
Oversee the office management, ensuring supplies and inventory are adequately monitored and maintained.
Work closely with the Regional Director and serve as the primary operational lead for planning, coordinating, and executing the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC), including venue selection, vendor management, contract negotiations, staff assignments, on-site operations, and event storage inventory.
Oversee the effective use of technology platforms that support SLC event registration and digital or hybrid convenings. Examples include Zoom, Cvent, Passkey, etc.
Oversee operational event logistics for additional CSG South convenings and regional events.
Partner with the Directors of Programs, Marketing, Policy and Research, and Strategic Partnerships to ensure flawless event delivery and member satisfaction.
Effectively works and communicates with state legislators, legislative staff, other government entities, nonprofits, program presenters, and myriad external partners as needed for convenings to be successful.
Manage timelines, budgets, and post-event surveys/reports to evaluate performance and ensure continuous improvement.
Create systems ensuring equitable workload distribution, operational accountability, and team performance excellence.
Foster a culture of service, collaboration, and reliability within the Operations and Events team.
Lead and motivate a high-performing team; ensure adequate training, coaching, and development; manage staff workloads; resolve challenges; coach, and evaluate performance that aligns with the overall CSG South strategy and standard of excellence.
Partners with the Regional Director to design internal workflows that strengthen staff collaboration, communication, onboarding, and professional growth.
Oversee purchasing and contracting policies to ensure cost efficiency, transparency, and compliance.
Collaborate with the Regional Director on setting annual budgets for general budget and operational efforts facilitated by the CSG South office.
Responsible for assessing risks associated with Operations and Events budget decisions and maintaining proper accounting records and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 7 years' experience in operations or nonprofit administration, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Demonstrated success managing large-scale conferences or convenings with complex logistics.
Proven ability to design and implement systems, processes, and tools that strengthen organizational performance.
Experience with project management platforms, CRM/event management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong financial acumen, with experience creating and managing budgets.
Track record of balancing multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders in dynamic environments.
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through.
Strong interpersonal skills, including self-awareness, sensitivity, and valuing others.
Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, remain nonpartisan, and steward resources responsibly.
A bachelor's degree is required; additional training or certification in operations, event management, project management, or nonprofit administration is preferred.
Willingness to travel routinely (up to 20%) for conferences, events, or meetings.
WE ALSO OFFER
A hybrid work schedule: Based in Decatur, GA, with the option to regularly work from home on Tuesday and Thursday unless traveling, discontinued, or temporarily suspended for business reasons.
